Isaiah 40:1-2

Isaiah 40:1-2…”Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”

All human life is a warfare. The Christian life is more so, but the struggle is temporary this side of heaven. Our biggest trouble (the eternal wrath of God) is removed in love, when sin is pardoned. In the great atonement of the death of Christ, the mercy of God is exercised to the glory of his justice. In Christ, and his sufferings, true believers receive from the Lord’s hand double despite all their sins, meaning that His work on the cross was of infinite value.
